He paused in the doorway. “We’ll be at the hotel for a few more hours, in case you change your mind.”
“I won’t.” But as he closed the door, Nic stumbled over the question: why had Julietta sent her to this man? When it was obvious she wasn’t someone he wanted to care about.
He might help her, maybe even keep her alive, but she couldn’t be close to him. Not when the adrenaline was still beating through her veins.
Not when she couldn’t get past the mental shock of seeing him.

He hit her emotions with the force of an electrical storm and she was still reeling from the impact. She’d never felt so unsure of herself, but she understood one thing with every nerve in her body.
